Malignaggi: "This is Why Boxing Has No Popularity Left"

After the fight with Juan Diaz was over at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, Paulie Malignaggi was furious with the decision. He was very upset with the 118-110 score of Gale Van Hoy. The other two judges had it 115-113 and 116-112 for Diaz. A few days ago on BoxingScene.com, Malignaggi complained about the possible screwjob by Van Hoy. He knew some home cooking was coming his way from Van Hoy.

Malignaggi didn't want to take the Diaz fight in Texas. His back was against the wall after the poor performance against Ricky Hatton.

"I thought I won the fight. I made an issue about the judges before [the fight]. I wasn't making sh*t up. I felt very ready for the fight. For nine months I was waiting for an opportunity since the Hatton fight. I felt that with my ex-trainer I was sliding and sliding. This was the only opportunity I was obviously going to get coming off the Hatton performance. I said that I would take a chance, even though I have these judges that I don't agree with. I felt that I had to prove something through a performance," Malignaggi said.

Malignaggi felt Van Hoy intentionally issued a wide score as revenge for Malignaggi trying to remove him from the fight.

"I've been watching boxing a long time and you don't see too many good decision in Texas with out of towners against Texas fighters. I don't know who to blame. I put my two cents in before. I didn't want Gil Van Hoy and I didn't want Raul Caiz. Actually Raul had it pretty close, he had it seven to five. I have to watch the fight on video. I thought I won the fight when I was fighting him but at least seven to five was a close score," Malignaggi said.

"118-110 was Gale Van Hoy d*cking it to me. He bent me over and he f*cked me. I said before the fight that this guy never goes against a Texas fighter in the state of Texas. I complained about him and he did it to me on purpose. There is no way that anybody won that fight 118-110. I didn't beat Juan 118-110 and Juan didn't beat me 118-110. Gale Van Hoy filled out his score card and said 'let me f*ck Paulie Malignaggi' because he talked sh*t."

Malignaggi said the fact that Van Hoy continues to get jobs in boxing is a clear indication as to why the sport has so many problems and why so many people are turning away from the sport.

"I don't understand how Gale Van Hoy keeps getting jobs. Oscar just said it all that this hurts the integrity of boxing. Boxing has no f*cking integrity left. It's been happening for years. That's why this sport has no popularity left. That's why nobody watches this sh*t because every year there are decision like this and probably even worse than this. I don't really know how close this fight was. People get f*cked constantly. Nobody watches boxing anymore because of sh*t like this. I was brought in as an opponent. I think I proved that I'm not an opponent, I'm still a world class fighter," Malignaggi said.
