WBC
super middleweight champion Carl Froch saw no controversy with his
recent split decision win over Andre Dirrell in Nottingham, England.
The fight was close and so were the scores. European judges Massimo
Barrovecchio and Daniel Van de Wiele scored it 115-112 for Froch, and
Mexican judge Alejandro Rochin favored Dirrell, 114-113.
Froch said Dirrell refused to fight so he went the extra mile and roughed the challenger up when the two of them got close.
"I definitely felt I won the fight," Froch said. "He didn't want to
stand and fight. The minute I got close quarters and tried to rough him
up and make him fight a bit, the fight which I want to be involved in,
he either jumped on the floor, got shoved on the floor, complained to
the referee, held on, every excuse in the book."
When questioned about the punches he continued to land to the back of
Dirrell's head, Froch threw the blame on his opponent. He said Dirrell
left him with an empty win.
"So what am I supposed to do?" Froch asked. "If you're not going to
stand and fight like a man, like a warrior, then all I can do is take
what's there. I'm not 100% satisfied, because I like to feel like I've
been in a fight. I feel like I could go back in there and do another 12
rounds with Andre Dirrell and beat him again."
